Has she already had her final chance to be the final girl?

All her life, she’s been the girl who survived。 Orphaned at age seven after a horrific killing spree at her family’s Oregon cabin, Kara McIntyre is still searching for some kind of normal。 But now, twenty years later, the past has come thundering back。 Her brother, Jonas, who was convicted of the murders has unexpectedly been released from prison。 The press is in a frenzy again。 And suddenly, Kara is receiving cryptic messages from her big sister, Marlie—who hasn’t been seen or heard from since that deadly Christmas Eve when she hid little Kara in a closet with a haunting, life-saving command: Don’t make a sound。

As people close to her start to die horrible deaths, Kara, who is slowly and surely unraveling, believes she is the killer’s ultimate target。

Kara survived once。 But will she survive again? How many times can she be the girl who survived?

Or is the real killer still out there? Can Kara survive again?Kara is a fully realized character and was portrayed in a realistic manner。 Enough information is provided about the other characters to give background and keep the plot moving and introduce suspects。The writing is excellent in this un-put-downable thriller。 The plot is complex and moves at a quick pace。 The narrative mainly follows Kara's point-of-view, with some chapters following Detectives Thomas and Johnson reopening the case, Wesley Tate, a reporter and son of the man who saved Kara, as well as a few other characters。 When murders start happening again, you won't know who to believe as the suspense and tension rises。 I was totally engrossed in from the beginning to the end。Disclosure: My review copy was courtesy of Kensington via NetGalley。http://www。shetreadssoftly。com/2022/0。。。 。。。more

I liked this mystery/thriller, but didn't love it。 There were elements that I did really enjoy -- the gruesome murder in the beginning, told from the point of view of a 7-year-old, was very suspenseful and definitely got me hooked。 Later in the book, the two other murders were suspenseful as well, and I do like how I never really knew for sure who the killer was until the last 40-50 pages or so。However, I did find some of the dialogue and other sentences to be repetitive。 Instead of repeated exc I liked this mystery/thriller, but didn't love it。 There were elements that I did really enjoy -- the gruesome murder in the beginning, told from the point of view of a 7-year-old, was very suspenseful and definitely got me hooked。 Later in the book, the two other murders were suspenseful as well, and I do like how I never really knew for sure who the killer was until the last 40-50 pages or so。However, I did find some of the dialogue and other sentences to be repetitive。 Instead of repeated excerpts, I would have liked this more if we had an inside look to the killer's story line, as well as the story lines we are able to read。 Maybe not in too much detail so the reader would not know the ending ahead of time, but enough to keep me wondering。。。I think Lisa Jackson is a wonderful suspense writer, as I have read many others by her。 This one just wasn't my favorite。Thank you to Kensington for my advance reader's copy。 I do want to note here that I received an advance uncorrected edition, so the repeated phrases/dialogue might be edited out before this goes to print。 。。。more

Lisa Jackson has done it again with this edge-of-your-seat thriller。 The Girl Who Survived is one of Jackson's best reads and covers the terrifying night that one seven-year-old girl relives throughout her entire lifetime。 Two decades later, Kara still struggles with nightmares and is determined to find answers to multiple questions about that dreadful Christmas Eve。 Lisa Jackson gives a new twist to each chapter of the novel keeping the reader captivated and wondering what will happen next。 The Lisa Jackson has done it again with this edge-of-your-seat thriller。 The Girl Who Survived is one of Jackson's best reads and covers the terrifying night that one seven-year-old girl relives throughout her entire lifetime。 Two decades later, Kara still struggles with nightmares and is determined to find answers to multiple questions about that dreadful Christmas Eve。 Lisa Jackson gives a new twist to each chapter of the novel keeping the reader captivated and wondering what will happen next。 The characters were well-developed。 I received this ARC through Kensington Books, and while there were several errors in the texts, there were not overwhelming。 Thank you for this preview!#GreatthrilleronGodreads!#ThankyouKensingtonBooksforthisARC! 。。。more

If this was a ninety minute movie, I would watch it and I would be entertained。I liked having a cast of characters who participated in the points of view。 Each character brought their own conclusions and interrogations to the table, which made this story feel like one large puzzle。 Everyone is obsessed with this twenty year old case-whether they are trying to uncover more details or hide nefarious deeds, each perspective lends some clues to the mystery of what happened that night and who is kill If this was a ninety minute movie, I would watch it and I would be entertained。I liked having a cast of characters who participated in the points of view。 Each character brought their own conclusions and interrogations to the table, which made this story feel like one large puzzle。 Everyone is obsessed with this twenty year old case-whether they are trying to uncover more details or hide nefarious deeds, each perspective lends some clues to the mystery of what happened that night and who is killing people now?Unfortunately, I did not identify with any one character。 I know we are supposed to identify with Kara, but her actions and trauma kept me from being able to connect。 There were moments that I felt she made some poor decisions and listened to her lizard brain just a bit too much。 On the flip side of this observation, the plot was enough to carry me through the story and so I do not feel too disappointed in not honing in on any one character。Some of the writing was a bit awkward in my opinion。 This was my first time reading a book by Lisa Jackson, and I found that some of her extraneous details subtracted from the pacing of the sentences。 I anticipated that the writing would flow and build in order to create tension and a sense of urgency。 Because it was lacking in this pacing, the book did not feel like a thriller beyond the initial first third of the story in which the content matter alone does the trick。I found this story intriguing and tragic。 It would be an entertaining story to see as a shorter film adaptation。 I lived in Portland for about fifteen years and now reside in upper NW Washington, so I know that the ambience of the location for a story like this-in film form-would be intriguing。 I have seen reviews on this book and they seem pretty divided, so I think I might go along with the opinions of readers who have read Jackson's works more broadly than I have。 Some liked this book and some were a tad underwhelmed, I would recommend reading the story yourself and coming to your own conclusions。 All in all, I look forward to reading a book by Lisa Jackson in the future。3-3。5 stars!I read and reviewed an advanced eARC copy of this book thanks to Kensington Books via NetGalley。 All opinions are my own。#TheGirlWhoSurvived #NetGalley 。。。more

Unfortunately I could not get into this book。 The author takes her time describing the many characters and I prefer books with less characters。 The main character survived her family being chopped up with a sword and years later, her brother gets out of jail。 She thinks her brother is innocent。 Because of the flash backs to the horrible day, I lost interest in this sad book。

The Girl Who Survived started off with a bang! I don't know if I've read a more heart pumping suspenseful start to a book, I was hooked! Unfortunately, it went downhill for me after that。 There were so many characters it was hard to keep track of who was who, and the storyline just seemed to drag on。 I found the end to be a little too far fetched。。。I just didn't love the whole book as much as I did the start。 The book had just enough to keep me reading, but barely。Thanks to Kensington Books and The Girl Who Survived started off with a bang! I can’t express how disappointing this read was… to start, I refuse to put a book down until it isn’t fun for me to read。 With this, I needed to skip over 100 pages in order to remotely enjoy it only to figure out how it ends — and even that was disappointing。 The amount of typos in this book far exceeded the positive elements of it; multiple characters’ names being misspelled is just unacceptable in my eyes。 I tried to have hope that the writing would get better and the plot would progress, but I can’t express how disappointing this read was… to start, I refuse to put a book down until it isn’t fun for me to read。 With this, I needed to skip over 100 pages in order to remotely enjoy it only to figure out how it ends — and even that was disappointing。 The amount of typos in this book far exceeded the positive elements of it; multiple characters’ names being misspelled is just unacceptable in my eyes。 I tried to have hope that the writing would get better and the plot would progress, but this was a poorly written soap opera of a novel that had a really promising summary and nothing else。 Perhaps due to the fact that this was an advanced reader’s copy, it hasn’t been proofread, and if that’s the case, then maybe this is a little harsh。 But in my eyes, there’s a lot of work to be done before this gets officially published。 。。。more

I managed to make it a little over halfway and then skimmed the rest。 It’s a shame because I think the story core was a good one, but the entire book read like a first draft。 Typos, grammar issues, telling instead of showing, sometimes telling and showing, repetitive sentences, unnecessary scenes, and clunky dialogue。 Basically, it was a bunch of issues that should have easily been caught and corrected by someone。 This felt like the essay you’re writing for a college class the night before。 I’ve I managed to make it a little over halfway and then skimmed the rest。 It’s a shame because I think the story core was a good one, but the entire book read like a first draft。 Typos, grammar issues, telling instead of showing, sometimes telling and showing, repetitive sentences, unnecessary scenes, and clunky dialogue。 Basically, it was a bunch of issues that should have easily been caught and corrected by someone。 This felt like the essay you’re writing for a college class the night before。 I’ve included below just a few of the many issues I caught for your reading displeasure;“Marlie licked her nips nervously。” (Some points for this one since I’m apparently a 10 year old boy and found it hilarious)“… stepping through a snow covered yard slowly, lifting each paw slowly…。”“Forested mountains rose on the passenger side of her jeep, while the oncoming lane, narrower than in summer because of the snow that had been plowed and left to freeze on the shoulder。” (I reread this 20 some odd times to try and figure out wtf she was trying to say。 I think maybe if she had replaced the second comma with was? Even then it’s clunky but at least it makes some sense。)These are just a few of the errors。 I appreciate the free copy of this。 I would have been more angry if I’d spent money on a book the author and publisher clearly didn’t care about。 It’s an insult to your readers to put out these rubbish errors。 Do better。 And, dear fellow readers, please don’t spend money on this book。P。S。 If any hardcore fans come at me because I missed some grammar issue in my review, I would like to kindly remind you I am not trying to monetize this review。 There is a difference。 。。。more
